More than 23,000 children will age out of the US foster care system every year. After reaching the age of 18, 20% of the children who were in foster care will become instantly homeless. Only half of foster kids who age out of the system will have gainful employment by the age of 24.

In Florida, 1,365 children aged out of Foster Care without a family in 2008, according to the Department of Children and Families. Of those: 1 in 4 will be incarcerated within the first two years after they leave the system and then 20% will become homeless after age 18.
